World of Warcraft Add-Ons

So, you love World of Warcraft, right? But their options… well… let’s face it – you could use a few more. Need a little more info when you’re fighting that giant monster that’s at least two levels above you, or do you just want to know when to repair your armor? Add on’s like Cosmo’s can give you all of that, and oh so much more. And the really great part about it is that it’s totally fine with Blizzard – use them all you like!

How Can I Get These Add-ons? You can get these add-ons a few different ways. Create them yourself with a free tool that Blizzard lets you download right off of their site, or download any number of pre-made add-ons that are made from other players. Remember, though, if you want to create your own, you’ll need at least a decent background in Lua, XML, or both.

Does Blizzard Allow This? For the most part. You can’t, however, give yourself an unfair advantage in the game. Things like teleportation is a major no-no, along with getting access to information that no one else has, doing more damage, having more armor… you get my drift.

If you do any of these silly things, it violates the Exploitation and Client/Server Manipulation Policy, and if you do that, you’re account could get suspended or closed entirely, and you could lose all of your characters, your items, your levels… everything.

How Can I Find Pre-Made Add-ons? Conduct a simple Google search, and you’ll find tons of different websites that will supply you with add-ons. The most popular, though, is Cosmos.

What is Cosmos? Cosmos is a massive collection of different add-ons for World of Warcraft. The thing that makes Cosmos different from all other add-ons, though, is it’s configuration system that’s dubbed Khaos. What Khaos does is configure everything together, making it run in a very smooth and unified manner.

Cosmos also has a completely awesome and unique feature that helps you really keep up with your game. It’s patch feature that updates it every time there’s something new with Cosmos, making sure you always have the newest add-ons.

Of course, if you’re not comfortable with this – or opening a .exe file – Cosmos lets you download just the text files to put into the World of Warcraft add-on folder, so you don’t have to worry about anything harming your computer. You can disable the patch option as well, in case that makes you worried.

Cosmos should run on any computer that runs WoW, including Apple computers, though the patch has had some problems with Win XP 64-bit. The actual add-ons work fine.

Some older, hardcore players might refer to add-ons as being something that isn’t needed, or almost cheating, but the use of add-ons is accepted and very commonplace. You can get add-ons to tell you when to repair your equipment, extra action bars, how many hit points your foe has remaining, and much, much more.

Overall, World of Warcraft add-ons make the game not only simpler to play and understand, but a lot more fun to deal with. They’re great for not only the hardcore players who just want more information, and the newbies who actually need the information to stay alive.
